When teaching body image and the prevention of eating disorders, I want my students to be able to examine messages from the media. We examine the process of airbrushing that allows many models to look "perfect." Then, students find ads in magazines that represent diversity (different body shapes, ethnicities, and ages). Students write letters to these companies commending them for sending messages of beauty that don't conform to the traditional media's version of perfect.
