Help students shake off those summer doldrums by using these quick activities to get your students up and moving about!
The Human Machine
Arrange students in groups of 5-6 to decide on a machine or piece of equipment with at least 4 moving parts and a 4-beat timing (e.g., truck, blender, washing machine). Each group plans and demonstrates a 4-beat timing sequence as follows:
- move every beat (1-, 2-, 3-, 4-)
- move every other beat (1, hold, 3, hold)
- move on first beat of 4 (1, hold, hold, hold)
- move 2 times to every beat (1&, 2&, 3&, 4&)
Have the class guess the machine demonstrated by each group.
