Health Resources

The National Mental Health Association (NMHA) provides information on a wide array of children's mental health topics at http://www.nmha.org/go/information/get-info/youth-and-families/youth-and-families. These materials are part of NMHA's ongoing national Children's Mental Health Matters campaign.

Resources for educators about school mental health topics may be found at the School Mental Health Connection maintained by the Center for Mental Health Analysis and Action at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

Beyond the Bake Sale: The Essential Guide to Family-School Partnerships is a practical guide to building stronger relationships between educators and families, written by four researchers with strong backgrounds in the field. Excerpts of the book are available at no charge at the National Coalition for Parent Involvement in Education web site.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) publishes Drugs, Brains, and Behavior: The Science of Addiction. This 30-page, full-color booklet reports on why people take drugs, why some people become addicted and others do not, how drugs worked in the brain, and how addiction can be prevented and treated. It also includes a description of NIDA's initiatives targeting students and teachers.
